The One Where I Almost Fell Off the Couch
DO NOT POST IN bau_inboxTHANKS : )

I need to make a correction from yesterday's entry........my GM did not have her son dressed in head to toe Prada, it was actually Burberry.  Just wanted to make sure I put that out there.  Also, I was way too tired tonight to make my Hamburger Helper....I was in full lazy git mode.  So since Murry made chuck roast last night I didnt starve.  Good for me.  Now, the real reason I'm here, to talk about my show.  Shall we?

OMG, Ed Bernero more than made up for a disappointing premiere with tonight's installment of Criminal Minds.  I hardly know where to start.  Hmm..............

--Angry, crazy Hotch is better than weepy Hotch.  I dont want him to be all sad and listless.  I want him to be badass and handle shit, cuz that's what rocks.

--I also want his team to have his back.  I hope people dont start hating on Morgan because he was voicing concern.  He was doing it because he loves Hotch and he is worried about him and just wants him to be alright.  He is their fearless leader after all.

--Buckets of subtext too heavy for me to carry.  Ed, I love you boy, I love you like woah.  Not that I dont want more more more but seriously, you gave me enough to tide me over for at least two weeks, if not more.  I love the end, when she tells him he doesnt have to be alone.  Even Murry screamed subtext at that one.  Hell, that was more than subtext, that was a flat out I am here for you.

--ROSSI!!!!!!!!!  Why?  Because I can.  Because he is the man.

--Woobie Garcia.  Hotch yelling at her was just, well we know where his mind is right now  but she was still on it, still rocking it like she always does and saving the day for her profilers.  And she bought Hotch cookies that she wouldnt share with Reid.....how adorable.

--Did JJ steal Emily's bangs?  She got a new haircut and I like Emily without them but I still think she could do with shorter hair.  Its not a big deal on the grand scale of things.

--OMG, what a story.  Sympathetic unsubs usually drive me batty but you just felt for this guy, totally.  To have little to no memory of early life and then to go off the meds to figure things out and walk right into that nightmare.  He was sad and you were rooting for him and even though you cringed at the people he hurt, you wanted him to get his closure too.

--Did anyone else think Hotch shot that dude?  I was totally like "OMG, Hotch shot that guy".  Too convenient that the son did it but not altogether implausible.

--I have a friend who lives in Louisville.  Too bad she doesnt watch the show or I would ask how bad they messed up her town tonight.  I never seemed to notice her accent, she doesnt talk like me but she doesnt have much Southern in her either.

--Next week, we get Rossi backstory............very interesting.  I am anxious to see it.  I am anxious to see if Ed gives me mroe subtext.  I am so damnglad my show is back.  WOO-HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!

As always, come on in and discuss.  Agree, disagree, love it or hate it.....I'm open to all conversation and interpretation.

I'm not all that far from Louisville, and to be honest, there are people here who talk like that. *G* And I'm NORTH of Louisville. They DID mess up the pronunciation. We locals call it "Luh-vul". Two syllables, not three. ;)

Rossi rocks my world.

Yeah, I know about the pronunciation thing. I was wondering about everything else since everyone seems to find something to complain about when the show finally gets around to showing off their home town or state.....I know the two Philly episodes were a laugh, a sick, twisted laugh. They didnt even try.

I'm actually not sure how I feel about this episode. It will require a rewatch, for sure - I was cringing through most of it because I knew Hotch was going to go off the rails a bit and I wasn't sure how far he'd take it (I can't stand to watch characters behaving like that //is weird). Now that I've gotten through it once, I'll have to view it again to really get my feel of it.

However, I did love the Garcia and Reid cookie/Hotch discussion. A bit random. A bit funny. A bit inappropriate. My kind of show. And Sean Patrick Flanery was hardly recognizable but I loved him!

I hope people dont start hating on Morgan because he was voicing concern.

I'd actually be more likely to hate (not literally) on Rossi in this one. It was driving me nuts how he kept brushing off the stuff with Hotch and saying they should just trust him. I know Rossi wasn't there when they went through PTSD/off-the-rails behaviour with Gideon and Elle and Reid, but Morgan was and I know he just wants to handle things right this time (as in, not letting people come back to work too soon and leaving them to their own devices).

I think he knew what he was talking about more than Rossi on this - the team's 3/3 for PTSD following a traumatic case, and Hotch coming back after only a month while his trauma is actually on-going is a little much. I get that Rossi thought Hotch should be back trying to show he hasn't lost it and helping the search for Foyet, I just thought he should take into account the very large possibility that Hotch would become the 4th team member to have PTSD, and that maybe they'd be right to keep an eye on him rather than letting him do whatever.

Wow, that ended up a lot longer than I'd intended. Sorry to rant all over your journal!

I like that they're really pushing Emily's protectiveness over Hotch - the dynamic is perfect between them this season.

Yeah, you know come to think of it, that's true what you're saying about Rossi and Morgan but it also brought up something else for me in reading you write about it.....this show ands out PTSD like candy and I think that's what's irks me the most. Yeah, yeah, I know they are going to see and do some things that are going to mess them up, its a hazard of the job. But we're in season 5 now and Hotch would be the 4th main character to go off and its a little too dramatic for me. No, I'm not expecting them to be perfect but one major breakdown from one major character (with an episode arc of it) a season is already too much for me.

I love that Emily didnt seem to give a shit if Hotch liked her covering his back or not and Hotch accepted it. He didnt say whether he liked it or not but that didnt matter, he just accepted it. He could've went off on her but didnt do that either.

Rant away.....that's the point of these discussions : )

Yeah, the Garcia and Reid conversation was a little inappropriate it but I liked that about it, they're showing that yeah sometimes they talk about each other behind their backs....I think they should show that a little more.

I think this episode was like the premiere was supposed to be for me....fast-paced, confusing, subtext, teamwork, little moments of yay, and a compelling case, all rolled into one.

THIS.IS.WHY.I.WATCH.THIS.SHOW. Because it has unsubs that are human, because the main characters are can be scary (not to mentioned scarred in so many ways).

Emily wins a box of Garcia cookies for how awesome she was tonight.

Rossi backstory? gimme, gimme, gimme!

Emily was damn awesome and even though Hotch got on my nerves just a little, I am willing to forgive....I just hope he doesnt become too much of a cowboy.

I am all over Rossi backstory.

It was a phenomenal episode and I appreciate it since I was flat-out disappointed with the premiere.

Oh, really? I liked the premiere. It set up the season nicely. Not explosively like in every other show.

Now that's what I call a great Criminal Minds ep!
I loved it.The dynamic,the case,the subtext,everything.

At the end when Emily tells Hotch that he doesn't need to be alone.OMFG.That scene was perfect.Okay it could have been even more perfect....but duh,I loved it this way:)
Emily/Paget was awesome in this ep!(and nobody looks as stunning in a Kevlar as she does)

Rossi!!!Can't wait the backstory.I'm sure it's gonna be great.

It was a fantastic episode, even if all the subtext werent in it, it still would have been amazing so that's what I call a winner. The subtext was just the icing on a very delicious slice of cake.

I really want to see where this Hotch and Prentiss thing might go.

I really want to see where this Hotch and Prentiss thing might go. --->Me too.I think Emily is up for it but Hotch isn't yet.But I hope that at one point he'll realize that he doesn't have to be alone.Emily'd be perfect for him.She cares, she knows how much the job means to him and she is a smart, strong, independent woman who doesn't need to be protected.

(And of course it depends on the writers.Chris Mundy, bring it on!:D)

And I need a Hotch/Prentiss icon.
katewallace: hotchkatewallace on October 2nd, 2009 05:04 pm (UTC)
I really liked this one, not just because they were in my hometown! And I'm not sure who to give credit to, but I only saw one scene where you could tell from the background that they weren't anywhere NEAR Kentucky...I think it was the one where Darrin was walking down the street toward the orphanage and you got a glimpse of skyline over his shoulder.. pure California! But otherwise, pretty darn good. THe accents..you get a whole variety, even from people who have lived there their whole lives. So, yeah, it was cool. ( And now I live just south of Port Huron, and Sarnia, which featured prominently the the season-ender last year. Too weird.)

The ep..Hotch needs to unwind, and soon, or they're going to have to throw a net over him. Rossi might want to reconsider the whole 'let Hotch be Hotch' plan after his crazy-ass stroll into the house without his vest on. I think Hotch feels he has to save EVERYBODY or he won't ever see Jack again, and it's just eating him up. That, plus there doesn't seem to be anyone looking for Foyet right now, unless they just didn't mention it here. Prentiss at the end was awesome..somebody had to say something..they couldn't all keep pretending it wasn't happening or just talking to each other. ANd next week...is it Wednesday yet? (And can we not have anyone being knifed/slashed this time? Yeah, I know it was a tie-in to what happened to Hotch, but let's move one, k? )
SSA McGeek: Hotch....the barrel of a gunmcgarrygirl78 on October 2nd, 2009 05:50 pm (UTC)
Oh, you're from Louisville, that's awesome. It is cool when they do your hometown though the two Philly ones sucked so bad for exterior shots.

I think Rossi is totally wrong and Derek is right to worry though I also think PTSD is very overused for drama and annoying to me. I think the past season has just shown the show going down this dramatic road and I dont necessarily like it, I want the focus to get back to the cases with little snippets of personal stuff. Hotch being badass! for the next episode or so is fine but then they really need to wrap it up.

And you already know that I am so stoked about Hotch/Prentiss developments but that is because we have been waiting so long, I dont need anymore obvious stuff, now give me little things like glances, trusting looks, working in the field together, maybe one more house scene.....I like subtlety since we know its not going to happen-happen, make me think that "oh crap, it might be happening".

I think Hotch and his team need a plan to catch Foyet...that's why Hotch is going craY researching him but once he comes down some I think they should handle the capture/hunt more reasonably.

It was an awesome episode, I was pleased after the less than stellar premiere.
